THE INSTITUTE
|
|
The Institute for Foreign Languages was founded in 1953. It is the
oldest and largest institution of the kind in the country. More than a
hundred graduated philologists are employed at the Institute. They
teach foreign languages to children and adults. Serbian as a second
language is also taught at the Institute. The Institute has developed
its own methodology based on current trends in teaching and research.
The Institute also writes and publishes course books, dictionaries and
other teaching materials for courses offered.

Advantages of learning foreign languages at the Institute:

Eight foreign languages are taught at the Institute:
- English,
- German,
- French,
- Italian,
- Spanish,
- Serbian.
English and French courses are organized for children. |

Foreign language courses are offered through regular and
intensive courses. Regular last 4.5 months and the intensive
varying from 1 to 2.5 months. Preparatory and ESP
(English for Specific Purposes) are also offered.
Courses for children last the
same as the academic school year (10 months).
Serbian as a foreign
language is also offered through regular and intensive
courses.

LEVELS

REGISTRATION
|
|
|
Foreign language
teaching for adults consists of four basic levels: Beginners (I
and II), Intermediate (I and II), Advanced (I and II)
and Conversational.
Foreign language teaching for
children consists of six levels: Pre-school, Preparatory,
Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced and
Conversational. Each level is divided into sublevels to
accommodate different age groups and language competencies.
Learning Serbian as a
foreign language consists of the following levels: Beginners (I
and II), Intermediate (I and II) and Advanced.

Adults need to register for courses two weeks in advance and
children at the beginning of September. Foreigners who wish to
learn Serbian can register for courses throughout the whole
academic year.At registration a contract is signed and the
first installment paid. Number of installments depends on the type of
course (2-10).

The Center for Research and Development was founded in 1957 with the
goal to develop and continually improve the methodology for
teaching foreign languages in schools. Presently, the Center is
primarily engaged in writing course books, teaching manuals and
producing other teaching materials. Many schools use the teaching
method designed and developed at the Institute. The Center for
Research also organizes teacher training and development.

The Institute publishes
in-house written course books, dictionaries, manuals and other
teaching materials. All publications are based on current methods
and research.
